    The location of the hotel.

The hotel is, sadly, tired and run down. With sound investment and first class promotion the hotel could regain its past success.

Our dog liked the lift(s), we didn't (see next). The osprey video link was great! Food was plain but good.

There were nasty stains on the bath (Room 107). Some of the bar staff were very noisy.

    Very good

I thought the checking in process was good and the receptionist was very kind and helpful. The four of us who stayed were working at the Lecht next day and having driven up from Edinburgh, it was nice to have a friendly face to check us in. We also had to leave before breakfast started but the night porter kindly gave us tea and toast as well as a selection at the buffet bar.

I think its like a lot of big hotels from this era, its getting a bit tired. I wouldn't say I disliked it, I felt sad about it more than anything.

Staff were fantastic barman knew his single malts and shared his knowledge Kelly in reception was very helpful best wishes to them both

    Very good

    The breakfast was very good.

I was disappointed in the range of the dinner menu. The quality of the food was very average.

The peace and quiet of the hotel was very nice and we were very fortunate with the weather.

The shower in the room was 1960's and was pitiful to say the least. It took several minutes for the water to warm up and even when it did you almost had to run around under it to get wet!

    Superb

The room was well appointed and had good views of mountains. The staff were very friendly and food was excellent.

Its rather quirky charm and excellent location in the heart of the countryside. The breakfasts were plentiful and good.

The whole place seemed in need of refurbishment. My sister's sheets were stained, though seemed to be clean. Food was a bit "pre-packed" and not really original, thought the mussels were excellent.

The hotel was functional and the location good, but on our tour of the highlands was the most expensive and our least favourite.

    Exceptional

Very friendly and helpful, good atmosphere, excellent place to stay.

Small point, but WIFI would help to keep in touch with business.

Breakfast was very good but hotel generally needing update.

Bedroom was overlooking a fire escape at the back of the hotel and was generally not clean. Small old fashioned tv which had no remote controll.

    Good

It was an advantage point to reach Aviemore as hotel price was fair compared to the ones in Aviemore. We were there for the ride out "Thunder in the Glens."

  • 6.2
    Good

The staff were excellent but were hampered by the hotel's policy of what was allowed and what wasnt .

Our room - 301- was cold ( given that the weather was pretty wet and miserable ) and we had only heating when we asked Reception . There was no heated towel rail albeit there was a switch to put it on ! On asking Reception they arranged for the handyman to have a look and he said that he would move the rail to above the radiator - which would have been fine if the heating had worked - it had failed again ! Because the hotel caters mainly for bus tours we had to delay breakfast until the buses had departed . It was not value for money given the problems we had and we would certainly not stay here again.

    Good

Room ok with view over lovely gardens. Large, quiet, comfortable lounge

All the staff we came in direct contact with avoided eye contact and were disinterested and not customer friendly. Only one crossant left at 8.15am and staff reluctant to supplement! Guests had to persistently request a box of cereal! Elderly coach travellers had to struggle up stairs with their luggage - there were young members of staff who could have assisted. Poor contrast with similar hotel in Italy experienced recently.
